You're on your way to see the witches when you hear a gravelly voice muttering incantations.

Intrigued, you round the bend and see an unfamiliar wolf hovering over some ingredients, eyes squeezed shut as they attempt a spell.

You watch them for a moment, realizing they're having some trouble, and pad forward.

This page appears if you clicked "Do you need help?" on Page 1.
The wolf's eyes snap open and they fix you with a glare.

"Not from you, novice," he snaps, and steps in front of the ingredients, as if to block your view.

"What do you want, anyway? I don't have time for pup lessons."
Chapter 3 Page 2a

This page appears if you clicked "Having trouble?" on Page 1.
The wolf's eyes snap open and they snarl.

"Not at all, novice. Not that you'd know if you saw it, anyway." He brushes the ingredients back with his paw and stands in front of them greedily.

Whatever he's doing, he doesn't want you to see.

"Here for pup lessons? Too bad, I don't have time for you."
Chapter 3 Page 2b

He barks out a laugh. "Smart of them, really, to keep this all under wraps. Luckily I'm not nearly as stupid as you."

The male stalks up to you, looking you over and smelling your scent.

"I'm feeling nice today, though. I'm Namir, the real chosen one."

The real chosen one? Did he mean...had the witches picked him too?
Chapter 3 Page 3

"There's nothing "too" about it--I was first, fish breath. I'm more skilled, too--I bet you haven't even learned this spell that I'm working on."

Namir's eyes flick back to his ingredients before blocking your view again.

"Clearly they need someone to complete the menial tasks since I don't have time; no matter, that suits you. Leave the real work to those of us with actual power."
Chapter 3 Page 4

This page appears if you clicked "Hey, I have power!" on Page 4.
Namir rolls his eyes.

"Sure you do. You have extra strength and can heal easily. Some power you have!"

He glares at you and when you don't move, he lets out an exasperated sigh.

"Well, go on! I have work to do!"
Chapter 3 Page 5a

This page appears if you clicked "Real work, huh?" on Page 4.
"That's right," he snickers. "I've moved beyond extra strength and fast healing--my work requires more skill than you could ever dream of having."

He glares at you and when you don't move, he lets out an exasperated sigh.

"Well, go on! I have work to do!"

Healing Path

Healing Path

The following pages appear if you clicked "What work is that? Bringing pain and suffering to the world?" on Page 5b.
Namir bares his teeth and lets out a snarl.

"Lies! This world is already twisted beyond repair. The witches only want to put it back to the way it was meant to be. Do you feel the strength flowing through your bones? Your energy pulsing with every breath of the Earth? That's not evil, pup--that's life."

His nose flares and he closes his eyes, as if drinking in the energy of the world.
Chapter 3 Page 6a

His eyes narrow as he looks at you with disdain.

"Oh is there? Are you here to tell me that I'm evil and you're good? No, no, don't tell me--you met Kora."

He says her name like it's vile, and claws the ground angrily.

"That wolf was born twisted. She's just mad that she can't have the power we do."
Chapter 3 Page 7

This page appears if you clicked "The witches really have their claws in you, huh?" on Page 7.
"Of course they do--they're my mentors, you idiot. As they are yours! Or are you no longer aligned with them, hmm?"

The hair on Namir's back rises and a growl grows in his chest. His eyes flash, and it's hard not to take a step back in fear.

"I'll tell you what--prove to me that you're not a pushover and I'll consider hearing what you have to say. But lose, and well..." His mouth twists into a smirk, and he braces himself.
Chapter 3 Page 8a

This page appears if you clicked "That's what you think." on Page 7.
"That's what I think? Who are you, some powerful know-it-all? Please, you can barely string a powerful spell together."

Namir stretches and drags his claws through the dirt, seeming thoughtful.

"I'll tell you what--prove to me that you're not a pushover and I'll consider hearing what you have to say. But lose, and well..." His mouth twists into a smirk, and he braces himself.

Battle Namir to continue with the storyline.

Ashen Oath

Chapter 3 Page 9

Namir stumbles back, panting heavily and looking at you with...admiration? Looks like the way to this wolf's heart is through battling.

"Not bad, you're stronger than you look. Fine, a deal's a deal--I'll listen to what you have to say."
Chapter 3 Page 10a

This page appears if lost the battle against Namir on Page 9. You will be unable to progress in the story until he is defeated.
Namir's jaws close around your throat. You jerk, trying to get away. With a laugh, he lets go, and as you scramble to your paws, he gives you a good shove.

"Pathetic! Is that what you call fighting? No wonder the witches came to me; you're weak. Better luck next time, pup."
Chapter 3 Page 10c

You go into detail about Kora, and the witches and what's happening around you. At first, Namir simply looks bored, but when you tell him about purging Kora's corruption, his interest is piqued.

"So you're saying she wasn't always corrupted...and she's a normal wolf. And that the witches and their spells caused her to twist. Hm."

He frowns and looks at his paws, mind busy as he digests your words.
Chapter 3 Page 11

He glances back up, clearly annoyed.

"I think that you're talking out of your ass...but I can't be sure either way. I want to meet this Kora. Come find me tomorrow, and I'll see what she has to say. Now go away."

He turns away, face deep in thought as he paces back to his spellwork. You won't get anything more out of him today--it's best to come back tomorrow.

Chapter 3 Page 13c

You find Namir where you encountered him before--right where he said he'd be.

"There you are. Let's get on with it, shall we? I have things to do." He stalks off in the wrong direction, and when you turn and go the opposite way, he makes a face and follows you in irritation. Someone doesn't like being a follower.
Chapter 3 Page 14

It's easier to call Kora than to try and find her. You let out a long howl and continue forward, knowing that she will come when she's ready.

Sure enough, her scent drifts by you and some brush up ahead stirs as she makes an appearance.

"Eternity! Have you come to tell me--" She stops abruptly when she sees Namir, and is instantly on the offensive.

"What is this? Why have you brought him here?" she hisses.
Chapter 3 Page 15

Kora leaps forward and shoves her face into Namir's with a snarl. To his credit, he stands as still as a stone, facing her head-on.

"Listen? I doubt it. He didn't listen before, why would he now? All he wants is to please those witches of his."

Namir glares at her, lips peeling back.

"If you're not going to play nice, then I won't..." He trails off, blinks in confusion a few times, and looks her up and down. "It can't be. You're..."
Chapter 3 Page 16

Namir's jaw hangs open as he stares at her, shock written all over his face.

Kora rolls her eyes.

"Seeing is believing, huh? You didn't believe me before; believe me now, Namir?" She spits his name out of her mouth bitterly.

Namir collapses onto his haunches, continuing to stare, before hanging his head in silence.
Chapter 3 Page 17

"They...they lied. They all lied." He shakes his head back and forth as if clearing cobwebs and looks at you with horror all over his face.

"They lied, and I've been twisting things and making it worse..."

With a deep sigh, Kora shoves him forcefully.

"We get it, you're dumb, your whole world has been rocked, and so on. Cry me a river, Namir. Are you going to help turn it around or sit here like a useless lump?"
Chapter 3 Page 18

The she-wolf shrugs dismissively.

"If he can't handle a reality check, he's of no use to us." She turns back to him and their eyes lock.

"So what will it be? Use that power of yours for good, or sit here wallowing in your own self-pity?"

That seemed to do the trick. In a flash, Namir is on his paws with a scowl.

"I'll be damned if I'm going to be useless. Teach me what I need to know."
Chapter 3 Page 19

With a nod to you, Kora steps back as you explain the spell to him. He watches with great interest as you demonstrate, and by the end his irritation has evaporated and has been replaced with curiosity.

"So it's essentially the same spell...but the end is different. The root is the same, while the path differs. Interesting..."

He murmurs softly to himself, and you turn to Kora.
Chapter 3 Page 20

"Now, we wait. Keep purging the corruption to tip the balance of this world in our favor. Soon, they'll think they'll be ready for the final ritual."

She studies Namir, who is still muttering to himself, and briefly nods.

"With his help, we stand a chance. When they're ready to do the ritual, instead of corrupting, we will purge it once and for all."

Kora seems more determined than ever; Namir's presence has given her hope.

Namir looks doubtful, but as the silence stretches on, he begins to look thoughtful.

"You know, even if you aren't as powerful as me, you're useful, at least. This world won't corrupt on its own--and I don't want to do it all myself. Fine then; show me you're serious about your dedication. Corrupt 5 and return to me."

"Oh, very well," Namir says with a grumble. "I suppose you can team up with me. But first, you have to commit to getting stronger, which means daily training. Against me."

With a delighted, malicious gleam in his eyes, Namir lunges at you.

Ashen Oath

Chapter 3 Page 9b

Namir stumbles back, panting heavily and looking at you with...admiration? Looks like the way to this wolf's heart is through battling.

"Not bad, you're stronger than you look. Fair's fair... I suppose."

He shakes himself, looking content even after the beating he just received.

"Go do whatever it is you do and leave me be. I'll see you again tomorrow."

Chapter 3 Page 11b

You approach the meeting spot, sniffing the air for Namir's scent.

You hear a snarl and a yelp, and turn to see Namir chasing after a small rabbit. He slams a paw down on it, holding it still, and lets the corrupting ingredients do their work as he murmurs the words needed.

The rabbit shrieks in pain, and you watch as it twists in front of your eyes. It's over in a moment, and the corrupted rabbit squirms under Namir's paw. He releases it, and it hops back into the brush.

A smile crosses the male's face, and he looks satisfied.

"I'm glad you approve. We must keep working; there's no time to waste. The witches are drawing close to the penultimate task: the ritual. The more we corrupt, the stronger we will be and the easier the ritual will be. I'll let you know when it's time."

Namir darts back into the brush, off to continue his work. It's time you do the same. The ritual will be ready to complete before long.

Namir's eyes roll so far back into his head that they disappear for a second.

"As if you haven't been doing it yourself! What, don't have the stomach for it any more? Fine by me; get lost, twerp."

Namir snarls.

"What? You're either with me or against me; I won't have a slug for a partner, waffling back and forth on their morals. It's tiresome. Choose now: are you with me or not?"
